In this BAFT Studios project, you will jump into a full-scale short film production right away with this homage to the classic teen movies of the 1980s! This immersive, experiential, project-based learning environment will give young actors and filmmakers the opportunity to work on a safe, fun, and collaborative film set.
Actors will have the opportunity to prepare alongside filmmakers to originate a role that is written specifically for them by BAFT’s in-house screenwriter. Using sides extracted from the log line, actors will be on camera from day one with cold reads. Professional coaching and guidance in acting and on-camera techniques, including understanding types of shots and angles, will prepare both experienced and novice actors for their on-screen role. From the first table read to the last “cut”, actors will undergo the full industry-standard process.
sides: a portion of a script (pages) selected for an audition or reading that highlights a specific character.
log line: a brief (usually one-sentence) summary of a television program, film, or book that states the central conflict of the story, often providing both a synopsis of the story's plot, and an emotional "hook" to stimulate interest.
cold read: reading aloud from a script with little or no rehearsal, practice or study in advance
shots: the indication of subject size within the frame
angles: marks the specific location at which the camera is placed to take a shot
