Intro to Puppetry with Emily McGee

Class Dates: July 8, 15, 22, 29

Course Description

  • Week 1 & 2: Puppet Building
    • Students will learn how to make a basic rod puppet (similar to Kermit the Frog) with everyday household items
  • Week 3 & 4: Puppet Movement/Articulation
    • Students will learn how to manipulate puppets (talking, gesturing, body language) in a convincing way, will learn how to convey character through the puppet, and will learn how to tell a story with puppets.

Puppetry Kits provided by BAFT. Kits include:

  • Puppet template
  • Fleece (1/2 yard)
  • .5" High Density Foam (1/2 yard)
  • Felt sheets (2  9x12 sheets)
  • Assorted Trims Feathers Etc
  • Rod Supplies


Additional recommended Supplies*

  • Puppet template
  • Glue/Glue gun
  • Felt, fleece, fabric, trip, feathers, etc. 
  • Styrofoam pieces, bits, and balls
  • Paints
  • Sewing supplies (thread, needle, sewing machine)
  • Cardboard and/or foam core 

*While these are recommended items, we’re excited to help you build a puppet with any supplies found in your home!
