Have you ever wondered if you could direct a movie and be the lead creative? Or just wondered how it all works? In this 5-week introductory class, students will take a written 25-page screenplay (The 2nd Try by Byron Wolter) and craft the story visually using tools of the trade, from storyboarding to executing a shot list. In addition, students will gain understanding of the specific role a director plays on set, including:

holding the creative vision throughout the process, overseeing the project from pre-production to the final edit

navigating the fine line between collaboration and a singular vision

communicating effectively and economically with film actors

managing and maintaining a positive work environment among the crew, creative team, and producers

understanding art and profitability and how those intersect for the working director
