Chopped Fundraiser

We'd like to invite you to participate in our biggest fundraising event of the year – an event that could have YOUR dish or YOUR cocktail appear on a restaurant menu!  And this year the stakes are extremely high as BAFT/Pigasus is in direct competition with our friends (and mortal culinary enemies) at Cardinal and BPP.  I hope that you will choose to represent BAFT/Pigasus in this battle for the (s)ages.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

HOW IT WORKS

 

There are two competitions: the Cooking Competition and the Cocktail Competition.  You can register for either or both to double your chances of winning! 

 

Cooking Competition

 

On Mar. 27, we’ll provide you with three surprise ingredients that you must use in a dish.  Two of them will be common amongst all cooks, one will be drafted by you from a list of 50 challenging ingredients (think Pop Tarts, pickled beets, or seaweed).  You can choose any ONE day you’d like to cook between March 28-April 3, so it’s completely flexible to your schedule.  It’s up to you to create and cook an original recipe that highlights those three ingredients (you may use any additional ingredients of your choosing). 

 

You’ll simply provide us with a photo of the dish along with the recipe and we’ll put it up on our website where people can give your dish a star rating (by donating).  The 3 dishes with the highest star ratings (most donations) along with the 3 dishes selected by our panel of chefs will advance to the next round.  After narrowing down the field once more through a round of open voting, the final 3 dishes will be tasted by our judges LIVE at our gala event, The Big Bang, on April 23 (you do not need to attend the event in order to participate in the competition).  A winner will be selected and their dish will be featured for a weekend at Truffles Restaurant! 

 

Cocktail Competition

 

On Mar. 27, we’ll provide you with two surprise ingredients that you must use in a cocktail along with a theme to inspire it.  You can choose any ONE day you’d like to create your concoction between March 28-April 3, so it’s completely flexible to your schedule.  It’s up to you to invent an original recipe that highlights the theme and the ingredients (you may use any additional ingredients of your choosing). 

 

You’ll simply provide us with a photo of the drink along with the recipe and we’ll put it up on our website where people can give your cocktail a star rating (by donating).  The 3 drinks with the highest star ratings (most donations) along with the 3 drinks selected by our panel of mixologists will advance to the next round.  After narrowing down the field once more through a round of open voting, the final 3 cocktails will be served at our gala, The Big Bang, on April 23 (you do not need to attend the event in order to participate in the competition).   The attendees will vote on a winner which will be featured for a weekend on the menu at Big Woods!

DONATIONS

 

The cost to participate is a minimum donation of $25 per competition.  But remember, this is a fundraiser, so we ask that all participants help us out by asking friends and family to support their creation.  Once you’ve cooked your meal, or crafted your cocktail, and sent us the photo/recipe, we’ll put it up on a website where people can show their support by buying you a star for your dish/drink.  Each star costs $25 and they can give you as many stars as they’d like.  For every additional $25 that you raise, you’ll get a star.  The three dishes/drinks with the most stars will move onto the second round along with the three selected by our panel. 

 

*This is also a great opportunity to invite people to your home for a dinner/drinking event where they can taste your creation.  Consider charging them $25ea, which they can donate directly to us and awards you stars.  Who knows…if they love it, they might even buy you extra stars! 

 

PANEL SELECTION

 

In addition to the fundraising champions, three dishes/drinks selected by our panel will also move on to the second round. There will be a Cooking Panel and a Cocktail Panel, comprised of 3 Bloomington culinary professionals each.  The decision will be made solely on merit, based upon the submitted photo/recipe (no fundraising amount factored in).

 

WINNING

 

Cooking Competition

 

The top 6 dishes (3 by most donations and 3 selected by our cooking panel) will move on to Round 2.  A vote will be held online (no donation factored in) and the Top 3 will move on to our live event.  At The Big Bang, a chef from One World Catering will recreate your dish based on your recipe and photo.  Our 3 judges will taste them live onstage and a winner will be selected.  The victorious chef will receive the distinct honor of having their dish added to the Truffles menu for a weekend.  The winner will also receive the coveted CHOPPED Golden Chef’s Hat.

 

Cocktail Competition

 

The top 6 drinks (3 by most donations and 3 selected by our cocktail panel) will move on to Round 2.  A vote will be held online (no donation factored in) and the Top 3 will move on to our live event.  At The Big Bang, a flight of the three top drinks will be available at the bar (recreated by One World Catering).  The audience will then vote for their favorite and the winning drink will be featured on the Big Woods menu for a weekend!   The winner will also receive the coveted CHOPPED Golden Cocktail Shaker.

 

 

BPP vs Cardinal vs Pigasus Competition

 

Perhaps most importantly, this is a competition for honor.  A competition for pride.  A competition for bragging rights between BAFT/Pigasus and those heathens at Cardinal & BPP.  We want – nay, we NEED to win.  This isn’t just bragging rights for a year, this is bragging rights for a LIFETIME.  There’s no way we’re coming home without this all-important Certificate of Honor that will be memorialized above Chad’s desk, commemorating the fact that BAFT/Pigasus clearly has the BEST TASTE IN BLOOMINGTON! 

 

BONUS STARS

 

With your initial $25 donation to register (per event), you’ll be given 1 Star.  But we will also give you the option of doubling that donation to $50 (per event) and starting instead with 5 Stars!  A 5 Star dish is MUCH better than a 1 Star dish – so you know what to do. 

 

We’ll also give you an additional 5 Bonus Stars for every contestant you refer to us.  When they sign up to cook or concoct, simply have them mention your name as a referral.  Invite your family to join or challenge your friends from across the country to compete against you.  Everyone would love the bragging rights of having their recipe on an actual menu no matter where they live!  And every time someone joins, you increase your chance of winning.
