AUDITION NOTICE -- SEEKING ACTORS!

 

IU Media School and Pigasus Institute/BAFT Studios are collaborating on two short films, Rover and Black Ghost, as part of a feature-length anthology series. Filming will take place in and around the Bloomington, IN area from May 17 to June 2, 2021. 

 

We are currently seeking video submissions for both principal and supporting roles.  (Synopses and character breakdowns below)

 

As you will see by the dates listed below, this is a very quick audition and filming process. Please read all the information provided and follow submission instructions carefully. You are encouraged to submit your video audition at your earliest convenience. 

 

General Requirements: 

  • This is a NON-UNION production. Only non-union actors are eligible to be cast. 

  • Actors must be available, without conflicts, for the shoot dates listed.

  • Actors must provide their own transportation to and from multiple locations in Bloomington, IN and surrounding areas. 

  • Previous acting/film experience is not required, but it is highly encouraged.

Important Dates: 

  • Video Audition Submission Deadline: Wednesday, May 5, 9PM

  • In-person Callbacks at BAFT (must be available at least one of these evenings): Monday, May 11 & Tuesday, May 12 

  • Zoom Table Read of Screenplay with 2 Casts: Friday, May 14

    • Rover: 7 - 8PM

    • Black Ghost: 8 - 9PM

  • Individual/cast rehearsals with the director: Saturday, May 15 & Sunday May, 16 (specific times TBD based on individual actors’ schedules)

Compensation:

  • Small stipend (TBD by shooting days/times)

  • Craft services will be provided 

  • Footage for your reel 

  • IMDb credit

How to Submit Your Self-Tape Audition:

ACTORS MUST: 

  • Use the sides provided that correspond to their role of interest

  • Slate on camera before reading sides. Please include:

    • Full name 

    • Height

    • City/area of residence 

    • Role for which you’ll be reading

  • Submit a video audition for 1 role only 

  • Upload video audition to YouTube using a private link

  • TITLE YouTube link as follows: 

    • Your Full Name, Role for which you are reading [Ex: Jane Doe, Ripley]

  • Email YouTube link to eric@pigasusinstitute.org 

    • Subject of Email: Audition for [Name of ROLE]

    • Body of Email: must include YouTube link and mobile number 

  • Email submission no later than Wednesday, May 5th at 9PM for consideration 

*Actors are encouraged to include attachments of their headshot/resume.

COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols:

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all crew members will be masked and distanced as possible at all times. Actors will be masked and distanced unless the camera is rolling. Sanitizer will be provided. We strongly encourage submissions from fully vaccinated actors.

Synopses, Character Breakdowns, Filming Dates & Sides 

 

ROVER 

Caleb Allison, Director/Screenwriter

 

ROVER is a gritty, sci-fi thriller that follows a small but fierce band of women who hunt the most dangerous game of all for the survival of their species. But when their own survival is threatened, can they come together to stay alive? Part of a feature length anthology series using digital and small gauge formats, ROVER is focused on the strength and bond of womanhood, family betrayal, and the mechanical horrors of analogue technology. 

**Individual call times are listed after each character breakdown. By submitting your video audition, we will assume that you have no conflicts with the days/times listed. Be aware that there will be late night/overnight shoots. Shooting days on this production will typically be 6-8 hours, but your individual release times will vary depending on your role. Flexibility is welcomed! 

Principal Roles:

 

ROVER/Sides

Mid-20s, the leader of her group. She is confident, logical, and loyal. She has a big sister instinct to look after and protect her friends, who she considers family.

RECKER/Sides

Mid-20s, is the baby of the group. She can be the life of the party but needs to be watched because she is easily distracted or entertained, but she deeply loves Rover and Rage like sisters and would do anything for them.

RAGE/Sides

Mid-20s, pretty but with a hard edge to her. She doesn’t take shit from anyone and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She’s deeply loyal to her leader, Rover, and would do anything to keep her safe.

RIPLEY/Sides

An elegant and refined yet powerful presence of a woman in her 50s, dressed in all-black. She is the mysterious boss of Rover and her crew.

BRAD/Sides

Mid-20s, handsome, with working class, midwestern attire. He has a slow, confident cadence to his speech and his good looks give him confidence to use women as objects of his desire. He mistreats them and when his ego is bruised he can become violent.

Supporting Roles: 

**If you would like to be considered for any of the roles below, please send us a video of you telling a joke, a limerick, an anecdote, or doing a short improv or impression of your choice, and then follow the instructions for submissions. Your content after slating should be less than a minute.**

 

ROLAND

Early 40s, fit and strong, which is evident even though he always wears a suit. Ripley’s enforcer and number two, in charge of doing her bidding. He is single minded and deeply loyal to her.

BAR MAN

Heavy set and gruff. Works at ‘The Office Lounge’ as a cook, and now works for Rover and her crew as an accomplice, helping them hide their operation out of the bar.

BAR GUY

Early 20s, average height and looks, just looking for a good time.

BLACK GHOST

BLACK GHOST is a nightmarish ghost story that explores the consequences and tragedy of one family’s dark secret. David, a video store clerk haunted by his own ghost, struggles to support his mother as she begins to lose her grip on reality. Part of a feature length anthology series using digital and small gauge formats, BLACK GHOST is focused on the grisly aftermath of a family secret, the afterlife, and the mechanical horrors of analogue technology.

 Principal Roles:

 

DAVID/Sides

Mid to late 20s, black cisgender man, level-headed, competent, and somewhat somber. He’s empathetic but tries not to show it often. He’s struggling to come to terms with his mother’s dementia as he works at a local video store to support and be close to her.

**Comfortable on a skateboard. 

IDA/Sides

David’s single mother in her 50s/early 60s. Black female. She is a warm, strong, and independent person. However, her health is declining as she battles Alzheimer’s and she’s quickly losing her grip on reality. She loves David more than life itself but becomes increasingly dangerous as she loses her memory.

TAD/Sides

David’s best friend in his mid 20s. Black male. He’s enthusiastic and intelligent, and a lovably neurotic cinephile. He’s known David for most of his life and looks up to him. His mind is infinitely curious and speaks as if he’s always trying to catch up to his thoughts.
